Fistula after pyloroplasty – A novel approach to the management of a leak following oesophagectomy

چکیده
Management of upper gastrointestinal anastomotic leaks is an inter-disciplinary challenge. We present a case of late pyloroplasty leak following 3-stage oesophagectomy. We describe a novel, combined endoscopic and fluroscopic procedure to introduce a T-tube into the anastomotic leak proving an ideal plug at the site of leak which enabled the patient to consume a normal diet and return home safely.

Management of anastomotic leakage-induced tracheobronchial fistula following oesophagectomy: the role of endoscopic stent insertion.
OBJECTIVES Tracheobronchial fistulas are rare but life-threatening complications after oesophagectomy. Leakage of the oesophagointestinal anastomosis with inflammatory involvement of the tracheobronchial tree is the predominant reason for postoperative fistulization between the airways and the oesophagus or the gastric tube. Successful management is challenging and still controversially discuss...
متن کاملAn alternative postoperative pathway reduces length of hospitalisation following oesophagectomy.
OBJECTIVE As part of our ongoing quality improvement effort, we evaluated our conventional approach to post-oesophagectomy management by comparing it to an alternative postoperative management pathway. METHODS Medical records from 386 consecutive patients undergoing oesophagectomy with gastric conduit for oesophageal cancer or Barrett's oesophagus with high-grade dysplasia were analysed retro...
متن کاملUterocutaneous Fistula Following Cesarean Section: Successful Management of a Case
A uterocutaneous fistula is a rare clinical presentation that occurs following Cesarean section and other pelvic operations. There are only a few reports discussing the treatments. We describe a patient with successful surgical management and review the literature. A 25-year-old woman referred to our department 13 months after her first Cesarean section. She had a history of an abdominal mass a...
متن کاملSuccessful management of an aorto-gastric fistula occurring 15 years after oesophagectomy with covered aortic stent graft placement followed by open surgery
Aorto-gastric fistula (AGF) is an uncommon and life threatening complication of oesophagectomy. Usually occurring in the immediate weeks following the procedure at anastomosis lines, this case describes a rare development of an AGF 15 years after an oesophagectomy due to the presence of a benign ulcer. Initially successful endovascular stenting of the thoracic aorta was followed by re-bleed, fu...
متن کاملUreterogluteal Fistula Following Ureteral Penetrating Trauma: Case Report
Introduction: Traumatic injuries of the ureter constitute only 1% of the total traumatic injury of the genitourinary tract. Most penetrating ureter injuries occur during surgery. Ureteral injuries in cases of external trauma are often accompanied by the injury of the adjacent visceral bodies and may be disturbed by the prevalence of manifestations and signs of injury to other viscera. In cases ...
